Are You Ready for the Second Half of 2020?
Hanging in my living room is a picture, given to me years ago, of a small, fragile plant sprouting up from a storm drain in the city where our family once lived.
The image reminds me that life and beauty have a way of suddenly springing up from the most unlikely places, which gives me hope.
It gives me hope because this has been an unprecedented season, spattered about with uninvited disruption, unwelcome change, and unacceptable tragedy.
It gives me hope, reminding me that King Jesus has a way of working in and through the most uncertain circumstances to bring about unexpected growth and transformation.
Within Reach, I believe that 2020 can be the finest hour for the Metro Church!
Not primarily because of our capacity or creativity or ingenuity, but because of the unparalleled promise of the gospel that even when our surroundings reek of darkness or death, Jesus single-handedly overcame both to bring us light and life.
Confident of this, we gladly embrace his calling on our lives to be agents of hope in times of darkness and despair, believing that things like joy, peace, reconciliation, and restoration are just around the corner. Or, I like to think, just beneath the drain.
This will be theme of our conversation with Michael Frost on July 30 @ 8PM, during Part #3 of our Summer Leadership Series!
In his book, To Alter Your World, Frost writes:
"Our incarnational call as followers of Christ necessitates that we love with a sincerity that draws us closer to those who are different from us, honors that divine spark in every human soul and acknowledges that God's love binds us together. This kind of love will change the world as we know it. It is a love that is best embodied in the way of Jesus; a love that makes it possible for us to embrace the kind of collaboration with our neighbors that is necessary for meaningful cultural change."
Frost, a leading voice in the missional conversation, world-renowned communicator, and author of numerous books including Surprise the World, Re:Jesus, Keep Christianity Weird, and The Road to Missional, will be joining us all the way from Sydney, Australia, to encourage us, leaders and influencers, to embrace Jesus' calling to live as agents of hope during these uncertain times.
